About UGMA

The United Grain Millers Association (UGMA) is a national organization that represents the interests of grain millers in Kenya, particularly those involved in maize milling. Established in May 2017, UGMA advocates for a liberalized maize market, engages stakeholders, and addresses sector-wide challenges to support a stable and sustainable milling industry.

Our Roles and Activities

1. Advocacy

UGMA influences public policy to foster fair competition and sustainable growth in the maize milling industry.

2. Stakeholder Engagement

We connect millers with government agencies, development partners, and regulators to find solutions and enhance sector efficiency.

3. Promoting Quality

We support the availability of safe and nutritious maize flour in line with Kenya's Big 4 Agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

4. Collaborations

UGMA collaborates with Nutrition International, JKUAT, and others to support knowledge-sharing and organize the Annual Miller’s Conference.

5. Addressing Industry Challenges

We raise awareness on global supply chain disruptions and advocate for action to prevent food crises and price shocks.

6. Warehouse Receipt System (WRS)

UGMA supports the WRS to improve grain trading, quality assurance, and access to credit for millers.

7. Aflatoxin Mitigation

We address aflatoxin concerns by supporting food safety testing, awareness, and regulation enforcement.
